Dyeing the Burnt Brown Colour: 

The dyeing process is completed by hand.

Several layers of hand burnishing techniques are used to create the deep natural shades of this colour.

The colour is designed to enhance the natural characteristic of the leather.

For the Burnt brown colour, we use 5 shades of dye & then several darker tones up to the final layer of burnished black.

Clusters of 3-D sculptured silk butterflies adorn the leather torso.

Creating the Embroidered Silk Butterflies:

The silk butterflies are created by using free machine embroidery & cut out by hand.

The machine needle is the ink & pen & the flow of the ‘butterfly’ is 100% free drawn’ Steph Aman

The Carving: We use natural un-dyed veg tanned leather in a thickness of 3 mm to create this bustier.

The Carving process is completed over a number of days on wet leather panels, secured in place & allowed to dry naturally. 

For the Alchemist bustier, we designed a ‘traditional floral bouquet & scroll’ pattern on tracing paper & transferred it to the wet leather. We carve the leather by hand with a number of tools & knives.

The ‘traditional floral bouquet & scroll’ carving process takes in excess of 80 hours.    

Dyeing the Raven Colour: The dyeing process is completed by hand. Several layers of hand burnishing techniques are used to create the deep natural shades of this colour. The colour is designed to enhance the carving scroll. For the Raven colour, we use 5 different shades of blue & navy & then several darker tones up to the final layer of Black. Dyeing the Raven colour takes in excess of 10 hours.

The Carving:

For the Alchemist Corset, we designed a ‘traditional floral bouquet & scroll’ pattern on tracing paper & transferred it to the wet leather. We carve the leather by hand with a number of tools & knives. For the Alchemist corset we designed the front panel with a floral bouquet in a background seed bed. The side panels & centre back panels are carved with a more scroll effect design.
